the story of wulfin

Wulfin is the wolf goddess and the mate of Wulf, the wolf god. Their cubs were the mortal wolves that now roam the earth. There was one law.. that neither wolf god or goddess should mate with a mortal wolf. But the darker hours came. Mennen (mankind) began to hunt wolves and yet there was no saving them. Why? Because Wulf had broken the law and mated with a mortal she-wolf. Wulfin would not forgive him, and told him that the wolf he had mated with would bear 2 cubs. One would be Wulf, born as a mortal wolf. He would live as a mortal for 1,000 years. He would be born, live, and die as he lived each lifespan of the mortal. The other cub would be Wulfin, for she felt that his failings was her fault. So she would be there for him. Wulf, however, would have no memories of his life as a god.

It was said that after the 1,000 years went by, after living through all the suffering and torment, if it was that Wulf could become the god he once was, then he would return to his place at Wulfrock. If he could not then all of wolfkind would die.

This mythology is based on the writings of William Horwood in a series titled "The Wolves of Time". In the it tells the story of Wulf and Wulfin. Almost 1,000 years has gone by since Wulf and Wulfin fell and it is the height of darkened times. Mennen were killing wolves, packs were killing other packs, and wolf law was being broken by wolves. It tells the tale of a pack of wolves, each coming from a different pack and area of Europe, coming together to make the legendary pack of The Wolves of Time. It is said that this pack would travel the wolfways (paths created by Wulf and Wulfin) and find the Heartland - the sacred area in which the beginnings of wolves could be traced.
